Spectrum Analyzer
Spectrum analyzer is used for measuring the power spectrum. This device is also used for examining the components of the waveform, whether it is acoustic, electrical or optical in form. Basically, there are two types of spectrum analyzer available in the market. Analog as well as the digital are the two types of analyzers available in the market. This device will also display the received signal and it is also used to compare the bandwidth to frequency. This device is also useful in analyzing the amplitude against frequency. The amplitude is normally measured in dBm or in power instead of volts. This is what it is generally used in most of the spectrum analyzer. The main reason behind this is a fact that there are frequency of movements and less signal strengths that may not be measured. The spectrum analyzers will measure only the frequency of response at powers low as –100 dBm. These levels are basically seen in the microwave signals. Whereas, the oscilloscope will cannot measure the very low voltage signals. This device will only deal with the high amplitude and low frequency levels. There spectrum analyzer basically make use of the technique wherein the incoming signal will be converted into lower frequency. This hybrid technique will first use the superheterodyne and then it uses the FFT techniques. The examples of the spectrum analyzer that use this technique are the ones that are made by Tektronix from the series of real-time spectrum analyzer. There are so many applications in the spectrum analyzer have. One of these applications is device frequency response measurement that will usually refer to the amplitude response of the machines against the frequency of device. Another application of the spectrum analyzer is the Microwave Tower Monitoring that will measure the transmitted power of a machine.
